Hawaii Evacuation for Gilmores
My name is Laura Cole and I live in Spanish Fork, Utah. My sister Anna Gilmore and her family live in Hawaii on the big island and have found themselves in a dangerous situation. They are experiencing daily tremors, random earthquakes and are on the wrong side of the new lava flow. They need to move and start over somewhere safer.
Her husband, John, has been unable to work since last year and the doctors have not been able to diagnose or cure his condition. Anna is several months from finishing her degree in midwifery so that she can support their family. In the meantime they have been surviving by living off the grid with temporary assistance from the government, but they do not have enough money to help them get out of the now dangerous area and start over.
Their plan is to leave John and the two teenagers in Hawaii to settle their affairs while Anna returns to complete her midwifery training in Utah. They will also evacuate the five youngest children (2-12) to Utah where they will live with and be cared for by their maternal grandmother and aunts (including me) for at least the summer.
We need help with plane tickets and travel expenses (checked baggage and food during the trip) for her children (about $1500) as well as moving expenses for John and the kids staying in Hawaii to find and move to a new home (moving truck, gas, rental fees, etc). Thank you for reading. We love our sister and her family very much and want to get them to safety. We are planning to fly them here to Utah in about two weeks.
Edited to add:
Our mother, Debra Gilchrist, will be withdrawing the funds to give to Anna. They arrived safely yesterday.
