Hawaiian Hogwarts

Ireland has been accepted into the 2018 Kamehameha Schools’ Hoomakaikai Kealakūlia Program! A summer camp to learn more about her Hawaiian Heritage and Culture. The program is only for children entering the 6th grade, so this is her one opportunity to attend. The event teaches children about Hawaiian History and Culture through hands-on learning. Activities during the boarding program include trips to historic places, working in an irrigated taro patch, fishpond restoration, mele, hula, and more. Our Straight A student is hoping to be able to see a volcano and visit family graves. She's nervous about trying new foods, but excited to meet her family and see where Grandma grew up! We've never been able to take her there, but we've tried to share our Love and Aloha for our Hawaiian people with her so she can be proud of where we come from and who she can grow to be. We sometimes call it "Hawaiian Hogwarts" because she received her acceptance letter, she's 11, and she'll be living with her fellow students at the same school her grandmother attended.  The program itself is paid for. And she can carpool with family as far as LA. We just need help getting her across the ocean. The money that was going to buy her plane ticket went to medical bills instead. Anything that you can contribute to her plane ticket would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo nui loa! Thank you so very much!
