Hayley Geren Cancer Expenses and Bucket List
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chris, a School Social Worker. I'm raising funds for a wonderful 15 year-old girl named Hayley Geren, whose family I've had the pleasure of knowing for many years. Hayley is currently diagnosed with Diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumours (DLGNT), and has inoperable tumors in her brain and down her spine. This is a very rare cancer that is dramatically impacting her current quality of life, as well drastically reducing her life expectancy.
When I asked Hayley what she wanted people to know about her, she gave a sweet, simple response. "I want people to know that I love God".
I love that. So sweet and simple. However, I want you to know a bit more about Hayley and why she is deserving of your prayers and donations.
Hayley was adopted at four months of age by Toby (her uncle) and his wife Amy. Toby, (a local small-church pastor) and Amy have nine children (eight of which are still living in the home), and Hayley is one of three adopted children in their household. They have cared for her for the past 15 years without much support from the parents, and have never asked for assistance. However, I convinced them to let me start a GoFundme so that the family could have the opportunity to make unique memories with Hayley as well as providing her with the opportunity to have "bucket-list" experiences that might otherwise have been denied her due to a lack of funding.
Hayley wants to be a teacher when she grows up, loves science, and loves astronomy.
Hayley's diagnosis is rare...so rare that the family had to wait two months for the biopsy to be sent to St. Judes for diagnosis. So rare, that there is not an established treatment protocol, and Hayley's oncologist decided to consult with other oncologists for a treatment plan. So rare, that nobody is sure of a prognosis, other than she may have one year or a few.
I plan to use any money donated for two purposes:
- Providing Hayley with bucket-list experiences, such as a trip to the beach, being a teacher for a day, visiting the redwood forest, visiting a planetarium, visiting an astronomical observatory, or anything else that would provide Hayley some unique views of the world that she would otherwise be denied by a shortened life.
- Assisting with any expenses that arise from Hayley's illness, including, but not limited to: wigs, medical bills, transportation fees, durable medical equipment, treatments, and medications.
Thank you for your consideration. Please consider donating to this worthy cause, and please pray for Hayley's recovery and God's will for her life.
