Hayley May Pearce - We are in this together

Recently one of our team – a friend, a workmate, a family member in the extended sense of the word – received devastating news that no parent should ever have to hear.

With one call from his wife, Lexie, their life was turned upside down. Their daughter, Hayley had been diagnosed with DIPG - an aggressive, incurable brain tumour.

DIPG occurs in an area of the brainstem called the pons, which controls many of the body's most vital functions such as breathing, blood pressure and heart rate.

Other symptoms are problems with balance and walking, problems with vision, chewing and swallowing, headaches, nausea and vomiting . DIPG is incurable and inoperable.

Hayley is a 2 ½ year old gorgeous girl, a cheeky monkey. Hayley is Cory and Lexie’s only child and what an amazing experience she has given them so far.

From day 1 she has been incredible in every way. She loves going to the park and playing out in the yard.

She loves to help Mummy and Daddy with the gardening and is especially good with picking up leaves from the grass.

She loves to relax with a bottle and some Peppa Pig, before a gust of energy will see her roaming the house looking for fun things to do.

Luckily, she has lots of interesting toys to play with where she shows just how imaginative and clever she is.

It is with incredible sadness that they have to admit that their future has changed in an instant, but we want to help them make as many memories as they can with Hayley, with the time they do have.

Hayley will start radiation to try and shrink the tumour and if this is successful, will give the family precious extra time with Hayley.

Every dollar raised with this fundraiser will go directly to the Pearce family to allow them to spend this time building more memories and making Hayley’s time with them as filled with laughter and love as possible.

This situation is tragic and leaves us feeling helpless – by being able to support Cory and Lexie in this way, we can at least provide some small comfort by removing some of the stress of everyday life and allow them to focus on each other and Hayley.
