Hayloft - A final year student film

Donation protected
"Hayloft" is a poignant short film that explores themes of love, acceptance, and the struggle to find one's place in a world that seems predetermined to set you apart. Set against the rustic backdrop of a rural farm, this narrative delves into the life of Shay, a teenager grappling with his identity and the complexities of familial bonds as he moves back to his father Seamus’s farm. Accompanied by his mother, Meave, and sister, Roisin, Shay's return is not just a physical journey, but an emotional voyage back to the roots he once knew, and a confrontation with a life he's since outgrown.

Seamus, a traditionalist at heart, has always had a strained relationship with Shay, further complicated by Shay's sexuality, which stands at odds with Seamus's conservative views. However, the farm is not just a battleground for father and son; it is also where Shay reconnects with Ruairi, a childhood friend and now a farmhand on Seamus's land. As Shay and Ruairi rekindle their friendship, it blossoms into something more, igniting a romantic flame that is as beautiful as it is forbidden.

"Hayloft" is not just a love story; it's a testament to the courage it takes to be true to oneself in the face of adversity. It's about the spaces we grow in, physically and emotionally, and how sometimes, coming back can mean discovering something entirely new about ourselves and the people we thought we knew.
