Hey! I know most of you have found out what’s going on but I’m going to post everything here because I cannot keep up with the amount of messages and calls I’m getting.
Cole was not feeling well for about a week with what he thought was the flu, because it had been going around at work. He presented with flu like symptoms and would get better then not feel good so I took him to urgent care 4 days in because I wanted him to get checked out. He was negative for flu and strep, and the NP diagnosed him with pharyngitis and laryngitis and sent him home with steroids and antibiotics. Fast forward 2.5 days later, he wakes me up pale as a ghost and says he can’t breathe so I rush him to the ER. He gets oxygen as soon as we get there and took us right now. His oxygen level was low but they already had him on 2L before we even checked it. He was admitted to ICU and was comfortable a couple hours then woke up and couldn’t breathe again after being trying every oxygen modality and then had to intubate him which means he also had to be sedated. He was okay for a while then we had to start chasing his oxygen again even while being intubated and his BP’s kept dropping, and couldn’t get his fever down. The intensivist got on the phone to get him transferred to Emory because they felt they couldn’t get him stable enough and didn’t have enough options to provide further care. The ECMO team from Emory came, with Rockdale sheriffs office assistance Of lights and sirens to get them there ASAP. He was placed on ECMO to help his lungs recover and transferred back to Emory. We got here around 3 am and today’s update is that he is not improving as they expected and is full of so much fluids so he is very puffy, and his kidneys aren’t working as good as they should so they started dialysis. Also his BPs continue to be low and heart rate continue to be high and they did an echo this morning which showed his heart is weak so we had to put his heart on the same type of machine as his lungs to help them recover. If this works, which there is a 40-50% chance it will, it could take weeks to months for full recovery. Please pray for us and I can’t thank everyone enough for all the support you’ve given us so far. I’ll post updates on as I get them on the Facebook update page- the link is https://m.facebook.com/groups/612621639486165?group_view_referrer=profile_browser !
