Hazy's Recovery
Donation protected
This is Nyki, Hazy's mom.
Hazy is our sweet little 3 year old frenchie baby.
Last week Hazy started feeling sick with vomiting and diarrhea. I had recently added some new food to his diet so I thought it would pass. This started midweek and then we were in the weekend and he wasn't getting better so we had to wait till Monday to get him in to the vet.
To our surprise the vet informed us that his kidney values were very high, so they did a urine sample. He was dehydrated, kidneys failing and he needed fluids. UTI?
We spent the next 2 days taking him in for subcutaneous fluids am & pm, anti nausea meds, probiotics, antibiotics.... in hopes he would start to perk up.
He did not.
Meanwhile I'm all over the internet trying to figure out WHY? Talking to his breeder, googling kidney failure in dogs, calling other vets... nothing makes sense except the next step which was IV fluids, more testing and overnights at the critter hospital.
So that's where we went.
There they did an ultrasound which ruled out some things, I guess, but still left us not knowing why this is happening.
Didn't really matter, the treatment would be the same.
48-96 hours of IV fluids, more urine tests to see how his kidneys are responding, more antibiotics...
It's the next day and I think the shock has worn off because now I'm laying here wondering how the hell we are going to pay for all of this.
I mean, we have to pay for all of this.
He's our baby. We love him and want him to recover and come home.
The other option... I just can't go there.
The high end estimate is nearly $8k.
We're already in around $1500 for the first vet. The ultrasound was over $500 alone.
It's insane how much everything costs.
And they come in with their treatment plan, and your heart is already torn open, you're desperate for good news, or hope, and they show you these numbers that mean nothing at the time because all you care about is your fur child getting better and coming home, so yeah, of course check, initial, sign here... it will work out.
We'll pay.
This morning I wake up and I'm laying here wondering HOW.
This is what I came up with first.
It's so hard to ask for help. So many people are going through it... but if you are experiencing abundance, or just feel to donate....
Any little bit helps. so PLEASE share far and wide, so the little bits can add up.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for anything & everything.
