A little over a month ago I found a small spot of mold under our master bathroom vanity. I started investigating and found widespread toxic mold throughout the upstairs of the house. I eventually turned the work over to a mold remediation company as it was spiraling out of control beyond what I was able to handle
In the time since, we’ve had to gut the majority of our upstairs including both of our bathrooms with showers, all of our bedrooms, the hallways, and our laundry room. Further remediation this week discovered that the kitchen/downstairs ceiling and everything in between the two floors are covered with mold. We expect a good portion of the walls downstairs to be opened up as well. We have to pack up everything and move out in two weeks so the house can be properly and safely remediated and then repaired.
Because there are no active leaks in the house, our homeowner's insurance has denied our claim and will not help us at all, leaving us with tens of thousands of dollars to pay out of pocket to get our home back. We are anticipating total costs to near 50 thousand dollars if not higher.
We have received a ton of support from our parents, friends, our work families, and many have asked how to help. Due to housing arrangements being taken care of thanks to Dan's USC Housing department, the biggest burden remains the high costs of remediation and repairs.
