TeatRom Festival 2024

The background of our promoted Festival is the nearly twenty-year-old art education and psychological program created by an NGO, the Utcaszínházi Alkotóközösség, tailored to Roma inhabited villages of the poorest regions of Hungary. At the annual interdisciplinary arts festival, the TeatRom, local communities perform together with professional artists and theaters.

Our initiative is unique in the ways that we reach out to people living in rural areas, especially children and young people, using the language of theater. Theatre activity is developmental for the social and individual skills of youngster through to it positive roma identity is available. Our second aim is to support the artists of contemporary universal and Hungarian Romani backgrounds to share their work with Roma communities.

In the past decade, it has become more and more clear that we cannot rely on funding from the Hungarian government. This year, only European partner programs support our initiative with performances and with volunteer work. Your donation would support the preparatory work throughout the year, the presence of the artists in the schools, educating local organisers. Your individual donations, would greatly contribute to the longer term survival of our initiative.
