Hey Now!!
This summer airfares decimated our cash flow and without your support, this non-profit will not survive. There is only one hope, as Bobby kinda of says, "We can share what you got, cause we are done sharing all of mine
Save us with the benefits below .
After living in Costa Rica for over 10 years, I realized how much I missed The Grateful Dead Community that i first found in the mid-late 70’s.. My wife Denise and I attended all five Fare Thee Well shows and later on went to Playing in the Sand in Mexico. Since the 1st show in Mexico.I had this idea of creating a Grateful Dead haven in Costa Rica that would embody the spirit of the band 24/7. I wanted to bring back the cool vibes, great music, and the sense of camaraderie where strangers stop strangers just to share a handshake.
Before the pandemic hit, I was determined to make this idea a reality. I discovered a charming boutique hotel with 10 rooms, a pool, and an 80-seat restaurant situated near an estuary at the end of a national park, with a beautiful empty beach just a short walk away.
We had some investors lined up to support the purchase, but unfortunately, when COVID struck, everything came to a halt. Undeterred, I signed a 10-year lease and decided to embark on this journey with Denise and I ( mostly me) —yes, in the midst of a pandemic! We opened our doors in November 2020, with three simple rules: no politics, no news, and an atmosphere reminiscent of a Grateful Dead concert. Do what ever you want , just be kind.
Soon after our opening, musicians who were not touring due to the pandemic started coming from the US to perform at our hotel. We've hosted talented artists like Garret Deloin (3 months), John Keldlecik from Furthur, DSO & JGB (twice), Mark Karan from Ratdog, Nate Lapointe, and many more. We've been fortunate to have great live music here, with shows happening almost consistently, five days a week for over two years.
In addition to the incredible music, our hotel is surrounded by monkeys, birds, and offers crocodile tours . The lush vegetation and amazing food have been an added bonus to our guests' experience.
During the pandemic, while we were losing money, people would approach Denise and I , thanking us for providing a space where they could dance again after a year of restrictions. We had a singer who was moved to tears as she sang on our stage for the first time in a year. Despite the losses, we were determined to push forward.
I often joke that running this hotel has been a non-profit venture, but it's no joke. We had hoped to be more financially stable by now, but the combination of high summer airfares, the band's final tour, and economic concerns have severely impacted our cash flow.
The reality is, we need your help to Save The Grateful Hotel and carry us through to November and December. We are grateful for any amount you can contribute.
Thank you for considering supporting us. For those of you who have been here , you have heard me say, I created this place for you, I’m just the ringleader of the circus. Your contribution will not only help us survive but also ensure that The Grateful Hotel continues to be a haven for music, nature, and good vibes. Let's keep the spirit of the Grateful Dead alive in Costa Rica!
All the years combined, they melt into a dream
Thank you
