On March 10th at 7:34 pm the life of 27 year old Rachel Woolridge took a drastic turn. As she and her boys were traveling to church they were struck head on by a drunk driver.
Immediately upon impact Rachel loss consciousness. Waking up at the hospital with no recollection of what had occurred. It was at that time she was informed of the head on collision and that she was in the hospital on the trauma unit. She was then informed that her 2 boys were also in the hospital. Rachel sustained the worst of the injuries: a broken right femur bone, knee, both ankles, nose and left wrist. Her oldest son, 8 years old, remained conscious and fully aware the whole time. He sustained a gash to his forehead and a pulled muscle in his leg. The youngest baby, 12 months, sustained a broken femur and was placed in a body cast for 3 weeks. As a result he needs physical therapy to learn to walk again.
After spending 11 days on the trauma unit Rachel was finally released to go home where real life has began to set in. For the next 6-8 weeks Rachel is unable to weight bear at all. She must be transferred from bed, to chair, commode, couch and back to bed on a daily basis. Currently, everything including ADL’s are being done for her. Rachel and her boys are in the process of relocating from her 3rd story apartment to ground level for better accessibility. Currently she is expected to be totally depended on others until July of 2023 - but definitely trusting and believing GOD for an expedient and total recovery and healing before that time.
In the words of Rachel:
“Seeing my children sustain the injuries that they did still make my heart ache.” Knowing that “I’m still not able to walk on my own. I require a wheelchair and later a walker at all times.” After which “I have to go through months of physical therapy before I will be able to walk unassisted again. I won’t lie this has been the most humbling experience of my life. Being 27 and not being able to shower or use the bathroom by yourself is another level of vulnerability and development of trust and to be honest it’s frustrating.”
Rachel adds: “However, I have to thank God one because he kept me and he kept my children. I could have and SHOULD have been dead. Every doctor who saw my car was surprised I was alive. But they don’t know the God I serve.”
Keeping in mind that the drunk driver did not have any insurance. While Rachel does have a lawyer working on her behalf, realistically we all know that situations like this take lots of time!
While Rachel struggled with the thought of a Go-Fund-Me account the reality is LIFE does not stop. This is going to be a long and tedious journey and process for the next months to come. Rachel living expenses range from $2500 to $2700 dollars a month (rent, utilities, food and basic needs). If you are able to contribute/donate to assisting Rachel in maintaining life through this recovery. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
Lastly, thank you so much for taking time to read Rachel story! Will you please also repost on your social media and share it with you friends.
God Bless and Thank You
