Healing the Healers Dog Sled Days Winter 2021-2022
Front line hospital workers have endured crushing exhaustion, loss, trauma, and personal risk as they continue to care for us throughout the global pandemic. We want to do what we can to help these healers heal through day-long dog sled trips this February.
Continuing the theme from Healing the Healers Canoe Days, we are putting together Healing the Healers Dog Days--a chance for healthcare workers to have a day so different from their typical days in hospitals and clinics.
A day for them to restore themselves in nature through a small group experience with sled dogs in Northern Minnesota:
to ride on a dogsled;
be silent and reflect;
connect with others in the healthcare field;
spend time with individual dogs;
listen to poetry and native flute; and to
begin to come back to themselves.
Guides Chris Heeter and Kathleen Anderson will offer activities to encourage and support the participants to move through their exhaustion, grief, and trauma, explore ways to let go, and let nature hold them.
These frontline health care workers have shown up and done their jobs in the face of relentless demands and at great personal risk to themselves and their families.
They should not be alone or forgotten in their grief and healing. We know the healing power of dogs and nature. Feedback from the Healing the Healer Canoe Days was so powerful:

And after all they have endured, it didn’t make sense/seem right to ask them to pay for this experience.
