Healey Students Experience DC and Philly!
Tax deductible
SUMMARY OF PROJECT
Help us give our students funds to spend four days of experiential learning in Philadelphia and Washington, DC this spring!
We have extended the trip this year to four days and multiple cities! This is the first year we can travel after the pandemic put our trip on hiatus for three years, so we want to do it big.
But in order to do so and not have to cut our trip down to three days, we need your help! We are a Title 1 school and our trip is all inclusive; we will not travel unless we are able to bring every student regardless of ability to pay.
ABOUT OUR WASHINGTON, D.C. and PHILADELPHIA TRIP
We strive to help students at our school become engaged citizens with an understanding of US history and culture. In Social Studies class, students learn about the foundations of US government. Students study the Civil Rights Movement and turning points in American Immigration. Students are exposed to moments where American ideals were not upheld as well as moments were injustice was overcome to move us closer to those ideas. The sites of Washington DC and Philadelphia play a big role in answering this question. Students will visit: the National Museum of the American Indian, the monuments on the Washington Mall, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, the White House, the Supreme Court, Capital Hill, the National Archives, the Washington Monument, the National Museum of American History, the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial and the National Museum of African American History.
Many students at our school do not have the opportunity for travel outside of our region, and many who may travel do not have access to the landmarks we cover on this trip.
Visiting Philadelphia and Washington DC will broaden their horizons, give them practical experience traveling, and help them draw real word connections to our curriculum. It will also serve as a wonderful way for students and teachers to continue building strong relationships as we are able to interact in a new and exciting setting.
