Healing After Tragedy Support Ghada and Her Childrens Future

Hello, my name is Malak Hammad, and I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of my sister-in-law, Ghada Hammad. Ghada has endured unimaginable loss and heartbreak over the past 11 months as a result of the war in Gaza, and I am sharing her story to help her and her six young children survive and rebuild their lives.

I’ve witnessed firsthand the strength and resilience that Ghada has shown throughout this devastation. She is an incredible mother who has lost so much, and now more than ever, she needs our help. Ghada's Story:

My name is Ghada Hammad, and after enduring 11 months of unimaginable loss and devastation, I’m reaching out to you in the hopes that my story will inspire those who can help to support me and my six children as we try to rebuild our lives.

Before the war began in Gaza on October 7, 2023, my family and I lived a peaceful life in Al Maghazi. I was a licensed pharmacist, working in my community. My husband, Mohammad Salamah, was an incredible man, a dedicated journalist, and a loving father to our six beautiful children: Yahya (12), Zeina (10), Qais (8), twins Reem and Raheeq (6), and little Lina (2).

We shared our home with my in-laws, and I was blessed to have their support while I balanced raising my children and pursuing my career. Our lives were full of love, laughter, and the hope of a bright future.

But that all changed when the war began. The pharmacy where I worked was destroyed in a bombing. My husband continued his work as a journalist, risking his life to document the tragedy unfolding around us. Together, we tried to hold on, splitting up our family in the hope of protecting our children from the increasing dangers.

*In November 2023, our home was targeted and destroyed in a bombing. We narrowly escaped, but it was the first of several attacks on our home. Despite our attempts to salvage what we could, it was bombed again, and now it is completely destroyed. All of our memories and everything we had built is gone.

*But then, on March 5, 2024, my world shattered completely.

That evening, my husband visited me and the children for what would be the last time. Later that night, the home where he was staying with my in-laws was bombed. My husband, my mother- and father-in-law, and six others were killed in the strike. I will never forget the words I heard when I called his phone after seeing the news of the bombing: “I’m sorry, the owner of this phone is dead.”

Since that day, I have been struggling to hold our family together. My son Yahya had already suffered severe burns from a fire in February, and caring for him and my other children with no home, no job, and no husband has been nearly impossible. We have lost everything—our home, our livelihood, and the people we love the most.

Now, I am humbly asking for your help to provide for my children. The funds from this campaign will go toward covering our basic living expenses and, God willing, help us rebuild a small portion of our lives once this war ends.
