If you are lucky enough to know Kristen O’Hara or “GIGI” as her grandchildren lovingly call her, you are lucky enough to see faith and love in action and you are blessed. Kristen has spent her life expressing her love for others through her warm and caring spirit. She is a true friend and confidant to so many, always giving of herself as a soldier of God and her church. Her faith is what she values most, closely followed by her love of family and friends.
In June of 2020, Kristen was diagnosed with Uveal Melanoma (eye cancer). A tumor attached to the back of her eye and Kristen was treated at the Wills Eye Cancer Hospital in Philadelphia at the end of June. Dr. Carol Shields surgically implanted plaque radiation into her eye to destroy the tumor.
Since Kristen’s tumor had been growing a long time without diagnosis, her oncologist in Philadelphia has deemed her high risk for the spread of cancer cells. She is fearful that cancer cells escaped from the tumor before she was treated and the cancer could possibly spread to her liver and/or lungs. Due to this possibility, Kristen is having MRI’s and chest X-rays every three months and follow up visits in Philadelphia every four months.
It is very important for Kristen to maintain a strong immune system to avoid the spread of cancer cells. Kristen will be followed by an oncologist, Heidi Puc in Chitttenango who has an integrative approach to medicine. This will not be covered by their health insurance so we wanted to start a Go Fund Me to make sure that Kristen can access the best care. Thank you so much for your support!
