Hello family & friends,
I'm writing this on behalf of my brother, Paul Hoffart. A few months ago, Paul celebrated his 50th birthday; what followed were months of obstacles & hardship. I won't go into detail about all that he's endured because this isn't a story of pity & despair but of hope & transparency.
After weeks of being sick with what we now know was pneumonia, Paul was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on Monday, November 7th. The day he was diagnosed, he was too weak to walk straight and had difficulty communicating.
The story of how he made it to the hospital is full of God's grace.
Paul was two weeks into a new job, and as he was walking into work that day, a coworker noticed things didn't seem right & helped him get into the building. Once inside, they gave Paul the choice of going to the hospital or home. Paul planned to go home & rest, but God had different plans. The coworker who helped Paul get inside had already called for an ambulance & refused to let him go home.
That act of kindness resulted in him being diagnosed with cancer, admitted to the hospital, and getting the care he desperately needed. He has been in the hospital ever since & has a long road of healing & treatments ahead of him. Since being in the hospital he has received 12 blood transfusions (as of 11/18/22) and has endured a 7+3 chemotherapy regimen. In addition to possibly needing a bone marrow transplant, we learned this morning that he also needs his gallbladder removed.
We are trusting & believing for complete healing in his body & know that God will supply all his needs.
There are parts of his journey that he needs help with - blood donations (that would go towards him & others in need), people to sign up to become bone marrow donors (for him & others), and monetary help.
With Paul being two weeks into a new job, he doesn't have medical insurance & now has no source of income as he is unable to work. His new boss is generously reserving Paul's job for when he can return to work. I have no idea how much all of his care and treatments cost. One of the tests he's had to go through is $2,000, and he likely has a few more to undergo.
We appreciate all donations and hope you'll consider helping lighten the financial burden he is currently facing.
Many thanks,
The Hoffart Family
