Healing for Kristin

My name is Amanda Rader, and on June 22nd of this year I was supposed to be the Maid of Honor in my dear friend's wedding. Unfortunately, that event never took place; and rather than watch her walk down the aisle, I watched her fight for her life.

Three weeks prior to the big event, a bachelorette party was held at Carson Hot Springs where a large suite, complete with private hot tub was rented for the festivities. Kristin was the guest of honor, so she spent a good amount of time in the private hot tub at the resort. It wasn’t until days after we returned home that we found out the water was contaminated with legionella bacteria and pneumonia was already setting in because of the legionnaire’s disease Kristin contracted from it.

Within a week of returning from her bachelorette party Kristin was admitted to the hospital, four days later the diagnosis of legionnaires was reached. Unfortunately, by that point Kristin was in critical condition in the ICU, in an induced coma, on constant dialysis and on a ventilator. Kristin remained in ICU for over a week and as of her wedding day had only made small indications of return to consciousness. It was on June 23 that a miracle happened, and Kristin was taken off life support, beginning the healing process.

Kristin remains in the hospital, with the goal of moving to a rehabilitation facility within the week. We attribute all the prayers that the community gave over the month of June to her making the leaps forward that she has. For the love that everyone has showed, I am forever grateful, and I know her family is as well.

That said, the needs of the family are now greater than that of just prayers, flowers and love. They have real bills to pay and while insurance covers a bulk of what she has endured – the family is financially exhausted from loss of work and time spent at the hospital. There are also expenses coming up, such as transportation costs from the rehab facility to dialysis, which are not covered by insurance. That expense alone will be substantial. That is what this GoFundMe will cover.
