Healing for Patrick: Help with Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Emma Laing and I am fundraising for my husband, Patrick Laing, to help with his medical expenses. He is suffering from Major Depressive Dissorder and Panic Disorder, which have peaked to a crisis point recently, leaving him unable to function. Patrick has struggled with depression since he was very young. In teen and adult years, it worsened leading to self harm and suicidal ideation. It eventually led to frequent seizures. Patrick has worked hard, seeking counseling, other treatments, and working through programs over the years to seek health and healing.

Along this journey, regardless of his own pain he has always been a generous and loving friend to all the people he encounters. He loves to make people laugh and serve others, welcoming them into his family. Despite his struggles with Major Depressive Disorder he graduated from BYU Idaho with his bachelor’s degree. We have three children he works very hard for and he is a Lighting Designer and manages a crew for live events and architectural lighting at BYU Idaho. Unfortunately, his condition has only worsened, and he now has Treatment Resistant Major Depressive Disorder and Panic Disorder.

The Panic Disorder began in 2016 and manifests through seizures, which became more and more frequent and have impacted his quality of life and our family. In 2018 Patrick went to the hospital at the University of Utah for study and the doctors told him he did not have Epilepsy, but panic disorder, and there was nothing they could do for him. Continued therapies, medications and other efforts have made no difference.

The last few months Patrick’s condition has become dramatically worse, leaving him unable to function at all. We are desperate to help him have some peace and healing so that he can return to working, spending time with our family and brightening up the lives of those around him. He is beginning an outpatient program of various therapies, exercise, and nutrition. If there is no marked improvement, he will need to be admitted to a treatment facility, but he hopes to avoid that to continue to be active in our church and spend Christmas with our family.

Whether he continues outpatient treatment or is checked into a treatment center, this is all going to be very expensive for our family. It being such a personal matter, it is difficult put it all out there, but this is the best option for us to get Patrick the care he needs without sinking our family into debt.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and best wishes to you!
