Susan’s Journey

Dear friends, At the beginning of October, our beautiful mother Susan was diagnosed with a cancerous mass in her right kidney which had already metastasized to her lungs. She came to Michigan to stay with me and the plan was to start treatments right away. Sadly, we just found out that her cancer isn’t treatable so now the objective is just to keep her as happy, healthy and comfortable as possible as we continue on this journey. Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable space for her to relax and spend time with family. Hospice will be providing equipment, some meds and a visiting nurse. We are hoping to raise money to build a wheelchair ramp, to hire caregivers, to cover the costs of the many comfort items that insurance doesn’t cover, to allow me take some time off to spend with my mom, help my brother Mark offset the costs of coming here from Australia, and to someday take her back to her beloved olive orchard in Greece. This is hands down the most difficult thing I’ve ever taken on. Thank you all for your friendship and support. I will try to keep you all updated here. In deepest gratitude, Kim Beer
