Cancer Sucks Glass

Sean and Stephanie Glass are two beautiful souls who met and fell in love while working in the COVID units during the whirlwind that was 2020. Amongst the chaos, they knew that they had found their ever after in each other and happily married in July of 2021.

In August of 2021, a mere month following their wedding day, newlywed bliss was interrupted by an unfortunate diagnosis. Sean was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera. This rare blood cancer causes your bone marrow to make too many red blood cells, thickening the blood and increasing the likelihood of life-threatening blood clots among other potential complications (including leukemia). With proper treatment, someone suffering from this condition can live a long and healthy life. Without treatment, statistics show that they may have as short as one year to live following a diagnosis. Nine months later, with several severe symptoms appearing and without a viable treatment plan from their current “specialist”, the Glass family have chosen to seek a second opinion and treatment with one of the country’s most prestigious cancer centers. Of course, with the best treatment comes a bigger price tag. This is where they need your help!

Initially, they will need to pay for a place to stay for extended periods of time as well as food, fuel and childcare for their four children. As time goes on, they will be faced with excess medical procedures and bills that, although necessary, are not fully covered by insurance. Factoring in time away from work, some of which will be WITHOUT compensation, it’s safe to say this journey seems very daunting indeed.

I’m hoping that we, as a community, can help to carry just a little bit of the heavy burden that has tragically befallen this loving family.
