As most of you are aware, my sister Elizabeth is a new mother to my handsome nephew, Elijah. What most of you don't know is that Elijah is the victory of a horrific battle for Elizabeth and our family. In 2018, Liz was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Not only was she diagnosed with this vicious disease, but her lifelong dream of becoming a mother was essentially shattered. After treatment and multiple attempts to prevent the havoc that cancer wreaks, Elizabeth was informed that she would need to undergo surgery to have her cervix removed in order to save her life. This was a devastating reality for her and our family. We couldn't lose her. Decisions had to be made quickly for her future, but Elizabeth had always dreamed of becoming a mother and that was something she was not ready to give up on yet.
By the grace of God, on December 30 our sweet Elijah was born. The Obregon's little miracle and the center of so many people's worlds entered this world a fighter, just like his mama. And man was it a good thing because they both still have a fight to face together...the cancer still needs to be removed. Elizabeth is set to undergo her full hysterectomy this summer and there is no time to be wasted.
Nothing could ever compare to the overwhelming joy Elizabeth is experiencing with her sweet baby, but the facts of the matter are that she is a single mother with no support from Elijah's father, supporting herself and her baby on one income with increasing medical bills, all the while still battling this relentless cancer. It's mentally and emotionally exhausting. It's expensive and she needs our support and help. The surgeon is seeking to do this procedure in July, and she will not be able to hold her son for a minimum of 6 weeks due to the healing time from this extensive surgery.
After surgery and per her surgeon's orders, Elizabeth will not be able to lift anything, including her son. She will be on bed rest and unable to work at the Hospital. Like most of us, she has reoccurring monthly expenses that must be paid. While she has always been an independent woman, I feel as though it's my responsibility to step in as her brother - and Elijah's uncle - and reach out for help. I know so many of you love her and want nothing but the best for her and Elijah, so I'm humbly reaching out to all of our friends and family and hoping for your support. Please consider donating what your heart moves you to. Please share this on your social media platforms and please reach out to me or her for any assistance you feel moved to provide her with.
Elizabeth has always been my protector and always made sure I was okay. She's always taken care of me. It's my turn to take care of her...and my nephew.
Thank you,
Jared Obregon
