Healing Ken Switzer-Time to Return the Favour

If you’re taking the time to read this, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you know Ken Switzer. Had a few laughs? Been on a mission trip with him? Had an adventure or two? Had him pray for you, over you, with you, in your time of deep need? I have. He’s done so much for so many and now he needs us. We need to return the favour.

Always the caretaker, Ken often downplays problems but the fact is he’s been struggling with severe headaches for over two years now. These headaches are the result of a car accident a number of years ago and specialists in both Canada and Bolivia, as well as physiotherapists and neurologists have not been able to ease this pain.

This has been extremely challenging for Ken and his wonderful wife, Isabel. The headaches are part of Ken’s daily life and have significantly affected not only their quality of life but also Ken’s ability to do ministry. He ends up in Emergency every couple of weeks because of the debilitating pain. Some may have followed along on Facebook recently when he spent a week in the hospital as doctors attempted again to get control of the headaches. He has tried numerous treatments and medications to control the pain, but until now, nothing has helped.

Today (Friday, July 9) Ken is going to try a new therapy called "Cervical Radiofrequency Ablation.”This is a treatment that uses heated needles to disrupt nerve sensitivity in the neck and back in order to prevent the transmission of pain signals. The specialist Ken is seeing has high hopes that this will help with the headaches.

Ken and Isabel have health insurance that has covered 70% of their medical costs to this point. Unfortunately, even with that help, Ken's health costs have now surpassed what they can cover. Today’s treatment won't be covered under their insurance, so they will need to pay the full cost out of their pockets. This treatment is $4000 and by the Grace of God will be the answer to so many prayers for Healing Ken.

Medical costs so far have been over $3500 and that doesn’t include other financial hardships that go along with illness like this. When I heard that Ken and Isabel were carrying this financial load alone, I felt led to help and knew that others would want to help as well.

Ken Switzer has helped so many people in so many different ways. We all have stories about him. Whether he was our college buddy, our Youth Pastor, our Camp Counsellor, or just this guy we heard speak at church one Sunday and it touched our lives. More than one of us wouldn’t be what we are today without Ken’s influence. I am definitely one of those people so I am calling in every favour we ever thought we had. Let’s return every lunch he ever bought us, every ride he ever gave us, every kind word he ever said, every time he helped us move, every project he helped us finish, every wedding he ever performed, every baby dedication he ever spoke at, every event he ever helped us pull off in grand style.

Healing Ken will take a large and mighty village and we have that. Will you help? Every little bit helps, every share spreads the word, and every minute of prayer is deeply appreciated.
