Medical supplies for the Rama, Nicaragua
Donation protected
Steve Molnar, an Oakland based documentary photographer, who is photographing the Rama, an indigenous people of south eastern Nicaragua, has become aware of an important issue needing attention.
The Rama are an indigenous group native to Nicaragua who occupy several small villages along the Caribbean coast. Bangkukuk Taik is one such village, where he is working with the Rama leader Guthrie McRea in an effort to build a local heath center and stock it with basic medical supplies. These are basic supplies such as: bandages, pain relievers, diarrhea medicine, pregnancy tests , vitamins, and many other supplies. Pharmaceutical items we take for granted are not readily available for the Rama. The nearest place to get medical supplies for them is Bluefields, a city about seven hours away by boat. Therefore the people of Bangkukuk Taik go without.
The money donated would fund the construction of a small building and stock the health center, as well as provide basic training for two of the residents who would distribute the supplies at no cost to the people of Bangkukuk Taik and outlying areas.
Contributions will be a great help in establishing this essential service.
