ADVANCE HEALTH EQUITY!!
SUPPORT THE NEXT GENERATION OF RACIALLY DIVERSE MIDWIVES!!
The Health Equity Anti-Racism (HEAR) Committee of the Pennsylvania Affiliate of the
American College of Nurse-Midwives (PA-ACNM) announces a new scholarship fund to support the midwifery education of students who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, or other racially oppressed groups. The first scholarship will be issued in March 2023 and will continue annually.
• Roughly 90% of midwives currently practicing in the US are white, while 45% of pregnant people cared for by midwives are Black, Indigenous and Latinx.
• Racially concordant providers have been shown to improve outcomes, increase access, improve quality, and reduce experiences of racial bias in health care.
• Our profession was built on the disenfranchisement of non-white midwives.
• This scholarship is an opportunity for those who have benefited from generations of systemic racism and white supremacy to participate in a reparation and restoration process.
