KORTC 2024 Operating Budget

Tax deductible

Ketchikan Outdoor Recreation and Trails Coalition (KORTC), a 501c(3) nonprofit organization

Mission: KORTC is committed to the maintenance and development of outdoor recreation opportunities, creating outdoor recreation and education programs for all ages, and invigorating stewardship and health in our community.

Outdoor Recreation for All

There's a concept called "solution multiplier". It means one single action brings multiple benefits. Here in Ketchikan, at the foot of a vast wilderness and on an island surrounded by this unparalleled and rugged beauty of Alaska, we see a need for more healthy recreation opportunities for youth; maintenance of our current trail system and outdoor facilities; outdoor education and support of great adventures. Ketchikan needs an organization whose focus and skill set can provide these things and bring the benefit of structured outdoor recreation programs for all ages, increased stewardship of our trails, and represent the community interests in maintaining a healthy recreation outlet on Revillagigedo Island. This is what KORTC is all about.

Your Donation

Your donation means more access, opportunities ,and care for our Outdoor Recreation in Ketchikan. KORTC, with your support, will create these programs in 2024 for our Ketchikan Community:

  • Trail Maintenance- We are currently working with the USFS and Ketchikan Gateway Borough to create partnerships to all KORTC to provide a focused effort towards the maintenance of our existing trails.

  • Youth Program - We will hold a Youth Outdoor Adventure activities year round, including a Summer Day Camp. This will include hiking, camping, backpacking, cycling, fishing, and snowshoeing. We will teach the wilderness skill set including food and water safety, wilderness navigation, trip planning and provisioning, emergency response, and teamwork.

  • Community Adventure Program- KORTC will facilitate trips, provide equipment and training, and offer guided activities ranging from fitness programs, to planning high adventure.

  • Year-round opportunities for outdoor activities.

The funds we raise will be put directly towards establishing KORTC's Outdoor Education and Recreation Programs and bringing focused effort towards trail maintenance. KORTC will provide year-round activities for all ages, with a youth-focused experiential outdoor education curriculum and outdoor recreation opportunities for all ages and all fitness levels. With enough support we will create an indoor climbing program and teach rope skills, climbing techniques and safety.

Your donation will provide for our 2024 operating budget and our growth into a comprehensive community outdoor education and adventure program. Funds will go towards the purchasing of equipment, the support and training of staff, and the many needs of an organization including maintaining a base of operations, office equipment and supplies, and program insurance.

Outdoor Recreation is indeed a solution multiplier, providing not only community enrichment but a positive influence towards a sustainable and local-centric economy. We would be developing a more valuable Ketchikan experience for residents, more opportunities for exploration and self-discovery, and the rise of a new local outdoor industry with local operators.

History

KORTC was founded in 1998 and was instrumental in organizing the efforts in the 90s which established many of our trails in Ketchikan. KORTC was founded to serve as the nexus between State and Federal Agencies and the Community to allow for communication in deciding on which projects were in Ketchikan's best interests. Through the years, changes in policy, administration, and funding, KORTC has recently gained a renewed momentum and is steadily moving to fulfill its goals in the new year and beyond.

KORTC is a 501c(3), led by a 5-member Board of Directors with a diversity of experience spanning healthcare, non-profit administration, and logistic and management expertise. All members are active in the outdoors skiing, hunting, fishing climbing, hiking, backpacking, and cycling. Andrew Eisenberg, Executive Director, brings his experience as a climbing and backpacking guide, sailor and with outdoor program development experience to see to the organizational growth and day-to-day operations. All of this gives KORTC the experience to create outdoor programming to a high standard in quality and safety for our community.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information and to answer any questions you may have. In the meantime, make time to get outside!
