Healthy Heart for Dave

Hi, my name is Donna O'Mara; I am fundraising for Dave and Nicole Singleton. After many months of not feeling well, after having Covid19 and multiple doctor's appointments, Dave was informed that he needed Open Heart Surgery. Dave's surgery is on September 6, 2022, and he will be off work for four months or longer without pay. All money donated will go to Dave and Nicole to help with monthly bills, medical bills and travel back and forth for appointments.

In Fall 2021, Dave went to his primary doctor, not feeling well. He was given a nasal swab for Covid19 and told to go home and quarantine. The next day he was called and told he was negative for Covid19 and to come back the following week for a recheck. The following week they did another nasal swab which also came back negative. Dave was then sent for a chest x-ray because he must have pneumonia since it is not Covid19. The x-ray was negative for pneumonia but showed that Dave had Covid19 lungs.

Dave was treated with steroids four times for the next few months. Each time he felt better for a few days, then back to where he was without the medicine. Dave was then referred to a Pulmonary Doctor in February. He went through allergy testing and found out that was not his problem. So he was treated with an inhaler and a nebulizer. Neither seemed to do the job, so Dave was sent for an echo/stress test in April. The echo/stress test showed that Dave had an abnormality in his heart but not a big deal. They referred him to a Cardiologist just to be monitored.

Dave saw the Cardiologist in late May, and they thought he had a heart attack. So at the end of June they did a heart cath and TEE. Those results showed that Dave did not have a heart attack but that he had a failing heart valve. Dave would need open heart surgery before the end of the year.

Dave went to U of M for a second opinion, and the cardiologist there went over all of Dave’s tests, labs and reports and said Dave needed to have surgery as soon as he could get a dental clearance. Fortunately, Dave got that taken care of in August and is scheduled for open heart surgery on 9-6-22.

Dave’s doctors believe that his medical issue is a side effect of Covid19; before this, Dave had never had any heart-related issues.

Dave will be out of work for three months or longer without pay, he has been with his company for ten months, and they are only off FMLA if you have been there a year or longer. Upon hearing this, Nicole gave up her part-time job at school (that she loved) and accepted a full-time medical position to help keep money coming in.

Dave will be in the hospital for 10 days or longer. Nicole is taking off the first two days, and then she is returning to work. Since she is new at her job, she does not have any sick/vacation days that would allow her to stay with Dave longer.

Dave and Nicole have two daughters that want him back home and healthy.
