Helping hand -Earthquake Relief
On April 25th 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Nepal leaving 7,000+ dead and 30,000+ injured. The death toll continues to rise as rescue operations progress amidst entire villages that have been flattened. Tens of thousands of homes are now destroyed leaving more than a million people outdoors. Reports now confirm of a massive shortage of food, medicine and water supplies and with little government support, people from all over the world have poured in to help via donations and relief aid.
HeartBeat New York has been conducting drives to raise medical and food supplies and so far, we have sent 6,000+ lbs of critical aid supplies and we still need to send tons more. There are tens of thousands of individuals who would benefit directly via these aid supplies HeartBeat New York sends to Nepal.
Our main head-office, HeartBeat Nepal has teamed up with the Seven Summits Womens' Team, Milan Rai and Sudarshan Subedi of the Federation of the People with Disabilities to mobilize their volunteers and distribute the aid supplies. These are all credible associations with a long history of working with various social, developmental and educational issues throughout Nepal. All items will be distributed in Kathmandu and our non-profit partners mentioned earlier will distribute the aid to other hard-hit areas: Gorkha, Sindhupalchok, Helambu, Dolakha and Nuwakot.
What will the funds collected be used for?
We have been shipping items at $1.50 per pound and after shipping more than 6,000+ pounds of medical and food supplies so far, the need for funds is dire. As of now, we've collected all the expenses incurred from our friends and members and we now feel the need to reach out to the broader community to support. The funds will also be used to purchase critical aid supplies like water purifying tablets, first aid kits and tents. Moreover, we believe this project will be an endeavor that will carry on for years and your help and support is what will allow us to better the lives of those who survived the earthquake and the nation as a whole.
Please note that all donations we collect are 501 (c) tax deductible.
Thank you,
Lgs
