Tragic and unexpected death of my father

Donation protected

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Brian Meyer (age 65). Brian was a beloved brother, uncle, friend, coworker, and most of all, he was a loving father to his only child, Kian, with whom he had a very close bond.

Last year, Brian spent a total of 7 months in the hospital. The first time was for 4 months; he suffered with blood clots. The second time, he was only out for 2 weeks and had to go back for heart surgery due to an aortic aneurysm. That kept him in the hospital for another 3 months. During that time, his devoted son was by his side every day after work until 3:00 a.m.

Then on December 12, 2024, Kian got a call from his dad that he was going in for emergency surgery due to blood clots in his other leg. Brian was at work when he fell ill. He experienced pain in his leg, and when he went to lie down he was unable to get up due to not being able to feel his leg. When Kian arrived at the hospital, his dad was still sedated after 7 hours of surgery. The doctors informed him that his dad had suffered blood clots in his other leg and was at risk of losing his foot. The following day Kian got a call that his dad went into septic shock, and they ended up amputating his left leg from the knee down, but the infection was still spreading. He was told that his dad had less than a 5% chance of survival at best. Brian never regained consciousness, and the only thing that was keeping him alive were the machines. At the age of 24, Kian made the very difficult decision to take his father off life support. He held his dad's hand as he was struggling to take his last breath. This was heart-crushing to witness.

According to his coworkers, Brian was a hard worker, yet oftentimes they would see him in pain, but he would always say he was okay because he didn't want to lose his job. Brian worked 110 miles from home. The drive to work was 2 hours there and up to 4 hours to drive home with heavy traffic. He never complained about the drive and loved his job as a carpenter.

Brian was the breadwinner, and now Kian is left with a tremendous amount of debt. He is unable to handle all the bills and is grieving greatly. All this is leaving him in great distress. He is also now facing eviction. Please consider making a donation to lessen Kian's burden and help him make a fresh new start. Your generosity not only lessens his financial burden, but it will give him the opportunity to properly mourn for his loss. No contribution is too small. Prayers are also appreciated.
