Jon "Harpoon" Haprov's Medical Relief Fund
Donation protected
As some of you may know, our dear friend Harpoon is currently battling a myriad of serious health issues. At the beginning of this year, he began experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, digestion issues, and dizziness. The man could no longer make it up the flight of stairs to his home.
His doctor determined that the issue was related to his gallbladder, and scheduled surgery to remove it in March. Post surgery, his symptoms persisted, and became more severe.
In June, a team of doctors diagnosed Harpoon with Cardiac Light Chain Amyloidosis, a rare disease that occurs when an abnormal protein builds up in the organs and interferes with their normal function. They found evidence that the disease had already caused significant damage to his lungs, kidneys, and most importantly, his heart.
He agreed to participate in a clinical trial, in hopes that the experimental treatment would lead to a solution. Unfortunately, his health continued to sharply decline. In September, his doctors determined that he was not well enough to continue with the trial.
Harpoon was admitted to Cedar Sinai hospital on September 15th, with an indeterminate release date, as he requires around the clock care. On average, two liters of fluid is removed from his lung cavities daily, and he continues to undergo various treatments to keep him functioning. Fortunately, on October 1st, Harpoon was approved for a heart transplant. He is currently on a waiting list, but we are hopeful that this will occur as soon as possible.
Jon aka "Harpoon" is a gifted individual, loved by his network of friends worldwide. He works freelance as a painter and graphic artist, and has now been unable to work for several months during this health crisis. He was forced to shut down his shop. Post heart surgery, he will not be able to work for 10 to 12 months, and then need to start over professionally. Fortunately, he has health insurance, but it does not cover the total cost of his treatment.
We have created this medical relief fund to offset Harpoon's financial burden during this time. It is difficult to write this as our friend lays in the hospital. We have known him to be such a generous and caring person. He has always put in his heart and soul into the various choppers and cars he's worked on. Now is the time to give back, and show our friend support. The amount to be raised will cover his outstanding medical bills, and living expenses for one year.
