Fox's Fight Against HLHS
Donation protected
Fox Kleine was born on August 26, 2016 at 12:26am, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His mom, Alannah, was 42 weeks and 5 days pregnant, and had intended to birth her son naturally, with the help of a midwife at a birth center.
After 16 hours of labor and 12 hours after her water broke, her labor had stopped progressing. Alannah's midwife advised her to go to the hospital to be induced.
The attending OB told her she would need to have a c-section.
The plan was to have a family centered c-section, which would include holding her baby (skin-to-skin) immediately following his birth.
This plan changed, however, when Fox's oxygen saturation was too low. He was immediately admitted to the NICU and intubated for various testing.
Four hours later Fox's parents learned their son was born with a rare heart defect, called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, or HLHS. This defect caused his left ventricle and aorta to be too small to function, and will require numerous open heart surgeries and a potential heart transplant.
Eight ultrasounds by five technicians failed to discover the defect completed during the pregnancy.
Fox was air-lifted to St. Louis Children's Hospital, where surgeons are more equipped to perform such procedures.
On September 6th, Fox endured his first of the three heart surgeries. He will undergo his next surgery at 4 months old.
Alannah, Fox's mom, is a freelance photographer, and his father, Connor, is a technician at AT&T. Alannah is staying with Fox in St. Louis but Connor had to return to work in Tulsa, to secure his job in order to pay for Fox's tremendous hospital debt. Connor will require additional time off in the near future to join his wife in St. Louis to take infant CPR classes, learn to place a feeding tube down Fox's nose, administer medications, monitor his vitals, and adjust his oxygen.
Any donations will help cover hospital bills, medications, transportation and living expenses in the absence of work for either of Fox's parents during this crucial time.
