Hearts for Hugo

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Kayla and I'm fundraising for my grandfather, Hugo. On Easter weekend of 2023, we took my grandfather to the hospital fearing that he had suffered a stroke, but the reality was much worse. His left-sided weakness was actually caused by two brain tumors. Further scans showed that he had two more tumors on his adrenals, and after biopsy he was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic colon cancer. We were told that the only measures being taken were "comfort care", and that there was no curing his condition. Of course, this was all very devastating news. Seemingly overnight, my grandfather went from somebody who regularly played volleyball with people half his age, to somebody who cannot walk without assistance. He immediately started targeted radiation and chemotherapy, and those have helped shrink his tumors, but it has been very hard on his body. He has needed many other medications to help manage the side-effects of the treatments, and the bills and co-pays are starting to pile up. He can no longer work, and my grandmother has had to shorten her hours at work to care for him. We have a goal of $10,000 just to take off some of the stress. Any financial help that you can give would be appreciated, and if you cannot give financially, prayers are just as helpful.

To know Hugo is to love him. He is a man of deep faith and conviction. He is one of the most principled people I've ever known. He loves to golf, fish, and play with his great-grandsons. He's passed his love of volleyball onto each of his grandchildren, and would often rope us into beach volleyball games on our family vacations. He is at church every day, fixing things and helping out and serving as a church elder. I've been my grandfathers shadow since i was born, when he would put me in the baby carrier and mow the lawn with me on his chest to get my to nap. He insisted on academic and athletic excellence and always pushed me to be the best I could be. We had monthly movie and hot dog dates through middle and high school. He was my unofficial high school volleyball team mascot because he was at EVERY game, pacing the bleachers. It has been such a privilege to watch his relationship with my sons, they love great-grandpa with all their hearts.

We all appreciate every prayer, share, and donation. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
