Heartstrong for "Diamond Dave" aka "Baba Ganoosh"

This is a story of a man with a big heart, Dave Simon. A well known talk radio voice in the Mahoning Valley, he's been quiet lately. NewsRadio 570 WKBN mornings with Dan Rivers and afternoons with Ron Verb, "Diamond Dave" aka "Baba Ganoosh" shares his unique brand of commentary. Though still listening, recently a major health crisis has nearly taken his breath away. Financial pressures continue to increase after an uninsured procedure in December, January's month-long hospital stay, and now extended rehabilitation. Dave has been heart strong for his community since listening to his dad, in a small kitchen on the north side, discuss politics, community action, and neighborhood development. A comeback is promising, after a successful triple bypass surgery in January. The heart is pumping out hope. More mental energy returns each day, though balancing and even talking require effort. During his recovery, it's hard not to think about the tremendous financial setback. After working in a job and business every day for 40 plus years, suddenly not being able to is a shock.

Dave's a man with a courageous heart, who fought city hall to keep the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown, ran for state office twice, graduated from college and worked hard all of his life, raised a family, is active in church, and patriotic civic groups. Now, life is uncertain and challenging.
