Heat Relief for Homeless Daytonians
Donation protected
Hello, I am Janae! I am a social work student at Sinclair Community College and Heat Relief for Dayton is my Anti-Oppressive Social Work honors project. My passion is rooted in the intersection of social and ecological justice, a love of both people and the planet, and the desire to see both flourish together.
Social justice for the homeless and shelter-insecure is also an eco-justice concern. Exposure to extreme heat and cold, lack of protection from storms and tornados, and susceptibility to climate-related health hazards such as contaminated water and pollution put them at much greater risk of disease and early death.
In partnership with CityHeart, our goal is to raise funds to purchase at least 100 Cool Down Kits to distribute to Daytonians who are homeless or shelter-insecure this summer. 100% of the funds raised during this project will go towards supplying CityHeart with as many packs as possible.
These packs include:
- Neck cooling towel
- 2 Emergency drinking water packets (potable drinking water)
- 2 single-serve electrolyte mix packets
- Cold pack
- Sunscreen towelette
The suggested donation amount is $13, the cost of a single pack but we are grateful for whatever you can contribute!
We'll be raising funds March 1-29!
** $1600 covers the cost of 100 packs, tax & shipping. Any funds above the goal will go to purchasing additional packs to reach more of the 700+ homeless in our area.
