Friends, For the past two years I have had the privilege of going on a mission trip to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. During my short visits I have spent time with Heather and Francis Reyes. Heather is from Chicago and has given her life to serving others. Two wonderful people that are making a differnce in this world. Here is a small part of an email I received from Heather Reyes;
"Angosto is a small little mountain town about 30 - 40 minutes outside of Jarabacoa. I first went there in January of 2016 and just thought it would be a one time visit. I have been back multiple times and the community now knows me by name and will ask for me. This community is one that breaks my heart. The girls as young as 13 years old are being taken into town and sold into prostitution a couple of times a week. Most girls by the age of 16 have one or two children from prostitution.
There is one little girl, Yara who is 4 years old and can't read or write. She has been one of the children that I have grown close to and is a product of prostitution. The last couple of times that I have been in Angosto we have practiced counting to 5 in Spanish and writing her name. I am praying that God would protect her from prostitution.
I would love to be able to go up to Angosto once or twice a week. In order to be able to get to Angosto I will need a vehicle. The roads to Angosto are dirt roads and without a vehicle it is sometimes impossible to get there. My hope is that I would be able to get out to Angosto and teach smaller children how to read and write. It wouldn't be anything super big, but it would help them as most adults in the community can't read or write.
For me to continue to serve, I will need a to purchase a vehicle. I am praying and trusting that God will provide for this need."
See, Heather has a small motorcycle that is not suited to make the trip up the mountain to Angosto. But with the power of numbers, we can make her dream come true. Please consider any donation. God has been poking me to do this for a couple of months, and I guess he just poked hard enough!
