Heather's Kidney Transplant

Welcome you to my GoFundMe page! My name is Heather and I used to work as a firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician. I've fought  both structural and wildland fires and am eager to get back to work helping others. Now I'm fighting for my life waiting for a kidney transplant. I'm not the kind of person who is good at asking for help -- I prefer to be the one doing the helping, running in when others are running out. But three years ago my first transplanted kidney failed and  now I am the one that needs help paying costs assocated with a new transplant.

An amazing group of friends and family have undergone the the process of getting tested to donate a kidney. We've found a couple of promising matches -- but my donors do not live close to the transplant center. Transportation and food add up and are not covered by insurance. After my transplant, anti-rejection medications will be around $2,000 a month out-of-pocket. I will be back to work within a few months, but in the mean time, you can help make sure I can keep taking the medications to keep my transplanted kidney working. I also want to be able to take care of my donor who is  giving up a part of their body and taking time out of their life to do save mine by replacing lost income and travel costs, etc.
