Heath’s leg amputation and recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Heath, firefighter, paramedic, 911 dispatcher, and I am seeking assistance with an ongoing medical issue. I’m a diabetic with a historically weak immune system. I started out with an open wound on the bottom of my right foot that progressed to a deep, puss filled wound, and then gangrene, and the amputation of two toes. Now the foot has further necrosis and we are fighting to keep infection away. So the decision has been made to perform a right sided below knee amputation (BKA) which will occur October 3rd. Afterwards it is physical rehab, physical therapy, crutches, wheel chair, and then prosthetic leg. We are tapped out after 4 surgeries already and 16 days in the hospital. Been out of work for a month already, to include part-time work as well. No estimates on time after surgery because the nub has to heal first, then the fun begins. I’m not the guy that usually asks for help, but my friends encouraged me to reach out and do that very thing. I appreciate any and all assistance provided. God bless you for taking the time just to read about my need.
