Heavey's Heavy Fight

Donation protected
Our brother, son, uncle and friend Sean Heavey has had a tumultuous life filled with ups and downs, including 2 liver transplants and 1 kidney transplant.

Sean is currently on the transplant list for another kidney 10 years out from his first kidney transplant. Sean is devoted to enhancing the lives of those around him and lives each day knowing he is blessed.

Despite all of Sean's surgeries, setbacks, financial burdens and time spent in recovery, Sean never fails to make others around him smile and feel joyful. From the time Sean was born and my mother was told to take him home and enjoy him to his current age of 35 years old, he has been thru a lot. My mother was resilient in not letting her son die, she researched, she inquired and she fought relentlessly to find a willing surgeon. At just 6 months old Sean was the third infant in America to experiment with having an adult liver cut in half and transplanted into an infant, then again at 11 years old Sean was in dire need of a liver transplant and by the grace of god, was so graciously gifted one from a very special family after a long desperate search, fast forward to the age of 25, Sean again was presented with a very tough obstacle that he must overcome.

Kidney failure... After another long search and treatments, Sean was able to organ-match with our amazing mother who has never once accepted "no" or "not possible" as an answer in Sean's health battles. Our mother and father have fought so hard for Sean's health and quality of life, ensuring the best possible doctor in the current field. Continuously researching; tirelessly about medications and all that encompasses transplant and life thereafter. Following a transplant is a life-long endeavor filled with follow-up appointments, setbacks with bouts of rejection and figuring out what works best for your body.

Presently, Sean is in another round of rejection. The kidney he was so graciously gifted has provided him with LIFE and freedom, however, is tiring out. Our brother has been placed back on the transplant list after multiple hospital visits, extensive and invasive testing, followed by a current treatment plan to keep him going. None of this has been easy, the road is long and we pray for our brother to stay strong.

This is for my brother Sean and my parents Debra & Patrick who are currently struggling to stay ahead of the financial burdens and cost of the medical bills that pile up each month, to travel to Vanderbilt University. This battle isn't just for our brother this is for all others who have been dealt with a rare condition and are marvels to the medical world. Please consider donating to our brother Sean as he is in the fight for his life once again.
If you can't donate please consider sharing our story, for Sean and those in similar situations to know they're not alone!
