Hector Marcano's Retinopathy Treatment

Hi friends, my name is Jenniann and I'm raising funds for my father, Hector Marcano's retinopathy treatments.

My Pops, Hector is a diabetic and is currently dealing with vision loss from diabetic retinopathy. He's now living in Puerto Rico, taking care of my grandparents, and due to the move here and switching jobs, he is having a hard time gathering funds in time for his treatments without going into credit debt which will only make matters worse in the long run.

If we've gotten the chance to meet before, the odds are I've mentioned my Pops in our conversation. My Pops could light up any room he walks into and cares deeply about people and his family & kids. He's a scholar at heart and studies anything he can get his hands on, but loves diving into Scripture and piecing together the history behind the Bible. He's one of the sweetest men you'll ever meet, but this situation has taken a toll on him and his condition. It took some convincing on his end to allow me to start this fundraiser, but when I reminded him that God made us to be in community and that leaning on one another in times of need is simply a by-product of creation, we were able to get this fundraiser started.

THE TREATMENT & COST BREAKDOWN

We are so incredibly thankful for any amount given and wish to explain where the money will be going! The treatment consists of injections in each eye once a month (separately). Each injection costs about $2,300 out of pocket including other tests that they run every month. Essentially, every month the treatments run around $4300. He'll need treatments for at least the next 6 months. We also want to clarify that the intention of the treatment is to prevent his eyes from getting worse than they already are, not to necessarily get his vision back. The additional ask is for travel expenses from PR and Florida so he might receive better and possibly less expensive treatment in the States, as well as any medications they might prescribe him.
