Heights Student Refugee Support

Help build a web of support for refugees enrolled at Cleveland Heights High School!
Give to the Refugee Student School-Community Liaison Project so our newest community members can effectively navigate this critical moment in their lives.
By investing in an experienced advocate who will assist these new members of our community you will welcome them, share responsibility for their success, and help build a stronger community.
As outsiders starting a new life in an unfamiliar culture as high school students, these students must adjust quickly to a rigorous and consequential education level. While success is imperative for adjustment to American life, language barriers, uneven literacy and experience with formal education, lack of awareness of educational expectations, family and work responsibilities, and complicated systems make school harder. A myriad of tests, applications, and forms can be overwhelming.
Carla Bailey has worked with Cleveland Heights-University Heights refugee students for the last five years. She will provide culturally sensitive hands-on direction for between 30 and 40 high school aged students and their families as they make sense out of school and its expectations and opportunities. Each student will have plans and will be prepared for post-secondary learning.
This is a project of Reaching Heights, a community-based support organization for the Cleveland Heights-University Height that is committed to an excellent education for all children.
