Heklina: A Memorial (she would have hated this)
Donation protected
The bill has just come in and it is a lot more than we anticipated.
Basically, we need everyone attending to donate $20.
1400 people indoors + approx 1200 people outdoors and online = 2600 people x $20 = $52,000.
We generously kept the admission free to give access to the entire community, but without money it just can't happen.
Yes, there have been a lot of donations, however things like outdoor toilets, load-in, load-out & construction of the outdoor stage, screens, light, sound, street barricades, cables, trucks, and ALL the specialized labor still need to be paid and frankly were more costly than we thought.
The organizers and performers are not getting paid, but queer organizations and workers who have gone above and beyond to help us are not and should be; including the staff of Oasis and Oasis Arts who we have poached from their day jobs to put this together, Valiant Security Services, Oasis TV production crew, etc.
So if you've already donated, thank you. If you have yet to, now is the time.
thanks in advance.
For those who cannot make it in person, here is the link to the livestream which will also be available in Castro bars and restaurants:

On Tuesday May 23rd we honor the icon Heklina with a community celebration in The Castro. Since the indoor capacity of the Castro Theater was not enough, we have expanded to the street!
Castro Street will be closed between Market and 18th and the indoor memorial will be live-streamed for the public on screens in front of the theater.
In lieu of charging any admission and to cover the expenses of producing an event of this magnitude, we are humbly asking for donations. Miss the chance to donate and risk being haunted by Heklina forever.
Schedule of events:
- Noon: Castro Street closed between Market and 18th
- 5pm: Entry to Castro Street Stage area begins
- 6-8pm: Castro Street Stage hosted by LOL McFiercen and Dulce De Leche
- 7pm: Entry into Castro Theater begins *ticket reservation required - tickets are sold out*
- 8-10:30pm: Indoor Memorial *simultaneously live-streamed on Castro Street*
Note: Line for General Admission into the Castro Theater begins at Castro Coffee Company, runs north, turning down 17th at Twin Peaks.
Invited guests go directly to "Guest List" line.
