Helen Hillier's Wheels For Wellness
Donation protected
Hi There,
My name is Connie Oldford and I am reaching out to you in hopes that you can help me to help one truly inspirational person who desperately needs us all.
I am one of the home care workers that is currently employed by Helen and I have watched her health go from being very good and care free to now severely struggling every single day and her health and strength declining rapidly.
I met the Hillier's back in 2013 and was told that Helen has a very severe case of Osteogenesis - Imperfecta (Brittle Bones) and she fractures like eggshells. Helen also had Bowel Cancer and many other life threatening health conditions. Her primary care giver was her very dedicated husband Keith that would jump the moon for her but unfortunately he could not make her cancer disappear. Helen had a drive and spirit for life that no one could break and it was truly a blessing to be in their presence on a daily basis and watch the way true love should be.
In 2016 Helen was diagnosed with a second location of cancer but this time it was terminal stage 4 liver cancer. Helen's oncologist said that chemo would kill her and gave her only 8 month's to live. This was not an option for the Hillier's and she politely told the oncologist to never give her time lines because he had no idea of the odds that she had already beaten and this would be no different. Luckly the tumor grows but then it shrinks and that pattern continues but for the past 3 years the chemo has been sucking the life out of her.
Helen started a very aggressive cocktail of chemotherapy and have been on it ever since. Sadly this treatment has made Helen sicker than any cancer ever could but without shrinking the tumor Helen will die. This chemo cocktail has made her so sick that at times she screams in pain for the man above to step in. It has left open oozing blisters all over her body and causes major organ flux. Some of the medication that truly helps the side effects have been denied by the Newfoundland Drug Program and the cost is nearly $400.00 per month for the dosage that the oncologist wants Helen on.
Helen and Keith's livelihood use to be caring for disadvantaged teenagers but due to Helen's wiped out immune system and the contagiousness of covid, the Hillier's could no longer take the chance at the work they were doing and still keep Helen safe. They did not qualify for the CERB Program because they were considered self employed. Right now Helen's transportation that takes her back and forth to the hospital several times a week has become unfixable. It is not within the Hillier's means to afford a van, medication, mortgage and all the same expenses that all other families have, on a poverty income.
I am desperately trying to help someone that has helped so many while going through so much. They are by no means looking for a new van but rather something that rides fairly smooth due to Helen's severe brittle bones and something reliable to get back and forth to the hospital. Has you will see from the pics attached Helen is unable to ride public transit or either of the accessible systems due to the roughness of the vehicles. It would take the smallest of potholes and Helen would have 1 or a few broken bones.
The pics attached will also give a slight insight on the severity of Helen's health and the desperate need for assistance. I am asking you to please help in any way you can. Every single dollar counts. I am also asking for all negative comments to be refrained has the Hillier's are already dealing with more than you could possibly imagine. For those of you that may not have a credit card you can e-transfer by contacting me for Helen's fundraising email address. If you could find it in your heart to share this page it would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that GoFundMe deducts a portion of every donation but together we can reach this goal.
Thanking you from the bottom of our hearts. Helen, Keith & Connie.
