HelioHost's Morty Server
Tax deductible
HelioHost is going to set up a new server named Morty!
It's been a tough couple of years. After losing our cPanel licenses it looked like that was going to be the end, but it takes more than that to kill HelioHost. We're coming back stronger and better than ever. The transition to the new Plesk control panel is almost done, and we're getting a steady stream of new users daily. We need more server space so we can provide hosting to even more people.
One of the biggest complaints we get is from people who don't want to have to remember to log in every month to keep their accounts active. Users on the Morty server won't have to worry about inactivity suspensions anymore.
Another one of our biggest complaints is that we suspend accounts that cause too much load. Users on the Morty server won't get suspended for load, but rather the server will adapt to how much load you're causing and isolate you from all of the other users automatically to keep you online and keep everyone else's website online and isolated from your load as well.
Users are sometimes confused when they're signing up for an account, and don't know if they need a VPS or a shared hosting server. Morty will solve that issue by scaling to your website's needs automatically so you don't pay for something that you don't need.
Another issue is our existing servers are pretty crowded with a combination of donor accounts and free accounts. Morty will allow donors to have the best server all to themselves, and also give free users more room to breathe with less overcrowding. Everyone wins.
Finally, our VPS service is very popular and frequently has a waitlist to signup. If we can raise enough money to buy a new server it will also allow us to provide even more affordable VPS plans to many more people.
Morty will start at $1 per month, and the amount that you get charged will increase as your load increases to a maximum of $17.50 per month. If your website has a reasonable amount of traffic you will only be charged 3.28 cents per day, but if your load spikes a few days you could get charged up to 57.53 cents for those days of high load. Then if your load goes back to normal you'll go back to being charged 3.28 cents per day. You don't have to worry about getting suspended for high load, and we'll do everything in our power to keep your website online.
To make this happen we need to buy a new server. The one we have picked out has 192 GB of memory, dual Xeon processors with 20 cores, and 8.1 TB of hard drive space. We will also be putting Morty on an SSD raid array for the best combination of speed and reliability.
We're hoping to raise $2023 to buy this new server. The cost includes the server itself, rails, cables, shipping for the server, expected GoFundMe fees, and also spare hot-swap drives that we can use to replace dead drives within hours with no downtime and no loss of data.
Please note: There is currently no ETA on when Morty will be ready for accounts so it might be a few months before you get moved over. We'll make an announcement when we have a better idea of when the new server will be ready. Donations for this fundraiser don't count as payments for VPS or dedicated IP addresses. HelioHost is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so donations are tax-deductible.
