Memorial Fundraiser for Hellen Horton

Donation protected
Last Sunday, we received a call from Davie County, FL police with devastating news that our beloved sister Hellen had passed away at age 63 in her room. Her death was extremely unexpected and has been incredibly difficult to process. The day before, she had been having fun baking pies with her sister, caring for her ailing mother (our grandmother) who is on hospice care, and busy writing letters of encouragement to people in various neighborhoods across the Fort Lauderdale-Miami area.

Because Hellen's untimely passing came suddenly, without any hint of warning, we cannot rest properly until we know how this tragedy happened. Unfortunately, the state of Florida does not investigate deaths that appear to not involve foul play if the deceased has seen a doctor in the past year. Hellen had seen a doctor for an annual checkup in August, who had found her in relatively good health. This means that on top of suddenly handling funeral arrangements in the midst of grief, we are now burdened with the additional costs of the autopsy/medical investigation into her passing.

Hellen was one of the sweetest and most self-sacrificing people you would’ve ever met…a true light to the world. She was a supportive, humble person that always put others ahead of herself no matter the circumstances. What she loved and cherished the most was her relationship with God and telling everyone she met about the hope of paradise. While not married and without children, Hellen cared deeply about family and made a special effort to care for the vulnerable such as the young and the elderly. She was the definition of a TRUE Christian.

This fundraiser has been started on behalf of her siblings, nephews, nieces, and mother to help cover the costs of both her funeral service as well as her medical investigation. Any amount, even just $1 would make a world of difference. All donations gained will go directly to laying our dear sister, daughter, and aunt to rest, and any remaining funds will be devoted to the care and imminent passing of Hellen's mother.

Update: Hellen's Mother Sarah Liggon unfortunately passed away on November 04, 2023. The generous donations that have been provided will be put towards covering the cost of both Hellen and Sarah's Memorial.
