Help 11 FTC Members Attend the 2024 STC Summit

Overview — Reach for the Summit

This year, the Future Technical Communicators (FTC) club at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is taking on its biggest endeavor yet: bringing 11 of its members to the annual

STC Technical Communication Summit conference! This 4-day conference takes place this year in Bloomington, MN in May.

We need your help to support this largest travel group in the club's 20+ year history!

Each donation will support our group of students, soon-to-be grads, and recent grads who are attending in order to advance their careers, learn from veteran professionals, and bring their knowledge back to the campus and the workforce.

Attendees

Our 11 FTC attendees are: Chantal Cyrier, Dominick Chiovari, Cassandra Ortega, Delaney Gunnell, Joy Carandang, Leela Smith, Priscilla Janize, Henry Keating, Jonathan Williams, Marilyn Nguyen, and John Clement. We will be a varied mix of underclassmen, upperclassmen, club leaders, STC Florida members, and more.

We are also excited to announce that we will be sharing spotlight articles and videos so you can get to know each member of our group more over the coming weeks too, including why they are choosing to attend and how the Summit will support their technical communication career journeys!

Challenges to Overcome

Due to being such a large group and other factors, FTC faces unique hurdles to overcome this year, including:

Donating Supports the Future of Tech Comm

In turn, we are seeking the support of our community! We have plans underway to secure funding such as submitting proposals to our university, doing local fundraisers such as book sales, volunteering at the conference to reduce registration costs, and rooming together at the conference hotel. However, a donation from you will go a long way in confirming the attendance of each and every attendee, each in terms of travel, hotel fees, and any on-the-trip spending, by the time of the conference in May. It will also ease the weight of each attendee as they take on their current educational responsibilities amidst these efforts.

Please consider donating toward our goal of raising at least $1500, or $150 per attendee not including myself, by this May. Any amount helps, whether $10, $20, or more, since all contributions move an attendee closer to full coverage. Once fees such as hotel costs are covered and travel costs (currently covered individually) are rebated, any and all excess funds will go back to the club. Help us reach that goal, too! If we raise $2,000, that's $500 excess, or 3+ students who can attend in the future, and the gift will continue to keep on giving. Each attendee this year and in the future who attends the Summit is one who will have their life and career changed forever—a positive impact on the professional world and our technical writing community.
