Help 14yr old Sammy fight Guillain Barre Syndrome
Wondering if anyone can help my sister in law family out. Her son was rushed from Duncan BC to Victoria to Vancouver BC all with in a few hours because of the serious of what was going on. Since COVID-19 the family is not able to stay with friends or family in the area and need help with food and accommodations. Both parents work full time on a farm at home in Duncan BC . I am asking for any donation you can spare to help them during whatwill be a very long Journey for the family Sammy will need a lot of physiotherapy a lot of special devices and support to get him through this.
After a few days of Sammy saying his legs were bothering him, They decided to take him to the Cowichan hospital for a check up... within 5 minutes of walking in the door, he was already being moved to a bed, spinal tap ordered, ct scan, bloodwork all lined up, and within 10 minutes of walking in the door he was being wheeled down for the scan, 4 nurses poking and prodding at him while His dad was standing in a corner with his shirt in his hand going “wtf is happing, this can’t be real”. They were than Rushed to Victoria general by 7, and then to children’s hospital in Vancouver at 1am in a helicopter.
Diagnosis is Guillain-Barré syndrome, attacking the fatty tissues around the central nervous system, and it’s very serious, he will most likely live, but there is a serious risk of permanent paralysis of they can’t treat it. Aggressive treatment starts today, plasma flleresis (spelling), antibiotics, and wait to see how he responds. Dr says probably 2 weeks here in children’s, he is in the beginning stages of this disease and it’s going to get much worse, with a long road ahead of this family.
