Move 40 refugee families from street to shelter
Donation protected
Hi,
For the past month I've been spending my time at 2 of our city's growing Venezuelan refugee camps, and four of the city sponsored refugee shelters. These are good FAMILIES -- yes, whole families including grandparents and very small children who don't ask for money, instead they ask for work and shelter.
They are currently either living in tents on the street completely unaware of what Colorado winter has in store. Or they have made it into temporary shelters but have no food at all.
They came here seeking asylum and need help to get off the street.
In the past few weeks I've delivered infant formula and diapers to families living under a bridge bought a birthday cake for a girl turning 5 on the street, delivered medicine to sick babies, clothed adults and infants, driven people to immigration appointments, handed out food, and cried with people.
I have established relationships with these families, checking in on them daily and helping them feel supported, get food, warm clothes, and some sense of hope.
I've got a growing list of families with both old and very young members who need to get out of tents and get housing before the winter hits.
We are also hoping to procure a food truck to feed the sheltered migrants who are in a total food desert. If we can relieve the burden on the city for those things, they may be able to provide more sustainable assistance faster.
