Help 300 cats survive the harsh Romanian winter
My friends, siblings Remus and Simona Gall, did not set out to become the owners of the largest cat shelter in Romania. They started out small: rescue an injured cat from the streets one day, take in a litter of orphans another day.
But the numbers kept growing. In a country where poverty brings hopelessness to its people, there’s few who care for the fate of stray or abandoned animals. Saying no meant a death sentence; there’s no government help and often no kindness from anybody else.
There’s over 300 cats (and 15 dogs) at the Furever Home - Romania Cat Rescue NGO today.
Remus and Simona keep the sickest and frailest animals in their small apartment, trying their best to make them healthy - and often getting only heartbreak. The rest are housed in the countryside - an old house with a dirt yard, a rickety fence and undrinkable water from a well.
Food is expensive, medical treatments even more so. Even spaying and neutering is paid out of pocket. Remus and Simona do their best but their own money is supplemented only by small donations and barely covering the basics. There’s few adopters to be trusted and, with the pandemic still raging, the future is bleaker than ever.
But the biggest worry is that the harsh Romanian winter is coming and the growing number of cats can no longer fit into the house. The cost of a shelter that would protect all of the cats from the elements has been estimated at at least 9000 USD. But this money does not exist; even daily food and health needs are hard to cover.
This is why I am asking for your help, on behalf of the creatures that Simona and Remus are caring for. Help us build a proper shelter before the winter comes. Your donations will make a difference in the life of many souls, and bring a ray of hope to my friends.
Thank you for your kindness.
