Help 4 Young Chess Stars Achieve Their IM Title!

Hi Chess Family!

 

I'm Mike Klein, better known as FunMasterMike on ChessKid, and I want to help four young chess stars succeed. FM Ryo Chen, WIM Alice Lee, FM Tani Adewumi, and CM Brewington Hardaway are all about to play in an "International Master (IM) Norm" tournament, hosted by the Charlotte Chess Center , from March 16-20, 2022. IM is the second-highest title in chess and the last step before grandmaster.

 

All of these kids are worthy of our help. Tani is an amazing immigrant success story, won the New York State Championship in his first year of chess, and has already written a book about his journey. Alice has three world titles to her credit and Brewington has several national titles, as well as winning the most recent Pan American Youth Chess Festival. Ryo is the two-time winner of the ChessKid Youth Speed Chess Championship. And none of these children are even teenagers yet!

 

 

 

 

They are the future of American chess, but playing in the sorts of serious events it takes to become an IM or GM is not cheap. The upcoming tournament is typical for invitationals -- the aspiring players pay a large entry fee to subsidize the costs of paying the grandmasters and other veterans to play.

 

I am seeking to raise enough money to have their entry fees paid, which is $850 per player. The cost of attending is even higher with hotel, plane flights, and food, but having the entry fee paid would be a great gift from the chess community to help show that we value both their hard work and dedication, and the sacrifices that their families have made to foster their chess careers.
