Help Ananth Fight Stage 4 Liver Cancer
It is with a heavy heart I am creating this fundraiser to support my uncle Anantharaman Seshan or Ananth, as he is fondly called, who is battling stage 4 Metastatic Liver Cancer.
In Feb 2021, Ananth was hospitalized following stomach complaints and internal bleeding. He underwent multiple tests /treatment, including sonography, endoscopy, liver liquid removal, AFP (Alpha Feto Protein) count and liver biposy. The PET confirmed liver cancer with metastatis. This came as a huge shock to him and our entire family.
His exact diagnosis is Metastatis Liver Cancer covering
- Liver (HCC - Hepatocellular Carcinoma)
- Lungs (Spread from the liver)
- Tumor in the Portal Vein (Connecting Intestine to Liver)

One of the most alarming indicators according to the doctors treating him is his extremely elevated AFP (Alpha Feto Protein levels). For a normal adult it should be between 10 ng/ml to 20 ng/ml. For him, AFP is at 21,252 ng/ml currently and increasing.
Ananth is being treated by Dr. Chetana Bakshi, MD (Med), Consultant - Medical Oncologist, at Jupiter Hospital, Thane, India. Dr Chetana has prescribed Nivolumab injections to be taken twice a month. The drug has shown promising results for a 5 year life expectancy.

The market cost of Nivolumab is INR 3 lacs per month for two injections of 150mg each. This is the prescribed dose of medicine for Ananth. This amount translates to INR 72 lacs for a survival period of 2 years. Through a Patient Support Program associated with suppliers of Nivolumab, Ananth has been able to procure a subsidy of INR 1 lakh per month. This translates to requiring him to arrange for 2 lakh rupees a month additionally to be able to continue treatment.
For a 2 year survival period he would require INR 48 lakh which converts to around CAD 80,000 / Euros 54,381. This is just the standalone cost of the drug. In addition, there will be incidence of further daycare hospitalization, other supporting medicines & treatments and medical consultation costs amounting to approx INR 6 lacs in the coming year (CAD 9945 /Euro 6766 ).
My uncle and his family are from a middle-class income background, who have been under really unfortunate circumstances in the past one year. Their monthly income is currently Rs. 18000 / CAD 300/Euros 204 . His wife has to leave her running job to take care of him 24/7. He is in dire need of financial support. They are sustaining on their life savings, and unfortunately with the current situation, require help.
