Note: the GGF amounts raised will regularly be added as an offline donation here.

Urgent Fundraiser:

This is Maram Albawwab, a Palestinian digital artist freelancer from Gaza, residing in Turkey. I am reaching out for your urgent assistance on behalf of my family, who are currently facing homelessness, hunger and health issues in Gaza. They are innocent civilians who have been severely affected by the ongoing war.

The donations will be handed over to my family in Gaza through exchange offices:

  • 35000$, the coordination costs to Egypt for evacuation of 7 family members (my parents, my siblings and their families).
  • Roughly 2500$ transfer fees & taxes (it's about 2.9% from the total and also 0.3$ deducted from every donation).
  • I confirm that I will not personally benefit from the funds raised, and I personally will take care of all other expenses.

Family Tragedy:

Since the war started, my parents and my brother's family had to vacate their home in one neighborhood and seek refuge in my sister's house in another area, because as you can see it was a modest house with a fragile asbestos ceiling, so it was very unsafe to stay at home.

On 8th Oct, a large tower next to my family's residence, known as Al Watan Tower, was targeted and destroyed, causing extensive damage to the entire neighborhood, including our house and my brother's house leaving them Uninhabitable (luckily they were evacuated).

On 9th Oct, A miracle happened! Recognizing the escalating danger in their neighborhood, they decided to temporarily leave my sister's house for a safer location, As they were going to get in my brother's car, an intense bombing occurred right next to them, propelling them away. They sustained injuries and were running in the street until a passing ambulance, by pure chance, spotted them and rushed them to Al-Shifa hospital, and they stayed there.

4 days later, they found out that my sister's house had been reduced to rubble, and my brother's car was completely destroyed.

On 7th Nov, Ghassan (my nephew) was injured by white phosphorus and toxic bombs thrown by the occupation in the area, so he was moved to the intensive care unit at Al-Rantisi Hospital. The situation there was also extremely critical and surrounded by intense shelling and fire. I don’t know how they managed to evacuate under the bombing and fire to the southern part of Gaza-strip, even though his respiratory condition wasn’t stable yet, and mom walks with difficulty due to diabetes and old age with dad! But they had to walk about 7 km on foot seeking refuge to the south (Rafah).

My mom (Suhayla) is 70 years old, she suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure.

My dad (Moghannam) is 82 years old; He He is in a critical health condition due to Prostate and Valve Regurgitation.

My brother (Nemer) and his wife (Neveen) are parents to an adopted child (Mohammed).

My sister (Nermin) has (Ghassan) her child, who is orphan and holds Chilean citizenship from his father who passed away 4 years ago. Ghassan suffers from chronic breathing problems (asthma) and Oxygen deficiency.

I can’t continue my life normally seeing my family suffering and dying there, I even had times where I wanted to sleep forever.. The Chilean embassy wanted to evacuate Ghassan and his mom out of Gaza but they couldn’t leave mom, dad and brother to suffer alone! we are a loving small family, (while dad was stuck in Libya before he managed to come back home, because he had no id card because his family was also displaced back in 1967) mom raised us alone to love and support each others, she fought for us to be well raised and educated, this made our relationship deeply connected and special.. They are not numbers, don’t see this as just another sad story!

Mohammed, my adopted nephew (we call him Hammoud) is a multi-talented kid, he loves to dance, sing and draw, he’s open to life and full of energy!

Ghassan, my sister’s kid, is so smart and fast learner, he's very creative in playing with Lego and constructing an outstanding pieces!

These two amazing kids have no time now to play, along with mom, dad, sister, brother and his wife, they are suffering to survive!

It’s really heavy for me to ask for money, but I am compelled to do this to rescue my family; The only way to survive this hell is to evacuate them through Rafah Crossing to Egypt, which costs around 5000$ per individual, and sadly this is beyond my means, this is the reason why I decided to launch this fundraising campaign:

  • The total for my family (7 members) to evacuate is 35000$, this only covers the coordination costs to Egypt.
  • Roughly 2500$ transfer fees & taxes (it's about 2.9% from the total and also 0.3$ deducted from every donation).
  • I confirm that I will not personally benefit from the funds raised, and I personally will take care of all other expenses.

I appreciate every donation, and every share of the campaign for those who can’t donate with money.

Your support, no matter how small, can make a significant change.

This campaign is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a lifeline for a family caught in the crossfire of war.

Warm regards,

Maram Albawwab
